A1 RESURFACING: MYRESIDE JUNCTION

November 18, 2025

  • Overnight northbound carriageway closures 5 and 8 December 2025

The A1 is set to benefit from an improved road surface, with two nights of resurfacing works planned at Myreside Junction, 1.1 miles north of Spott Roundabout.

The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland resurface approximately 210 metres of the northbound carriageway.

To ensure the safety of road users and the workforce while work takes place, the northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed from Spott Roundabout to Thistly Cross Roundabout between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Friday 5 and Monday 8 December.

Spott Roundabout will remain open, however northbound traffic on the A1 will be diverted between Broxburn Junction and Thistly Cross Roundabout via the A1087 and Summerfield Road through Dunbar, and the A199. This diversion will add 8 minutes and 1.5 miles to affected journeys.

Access to the A1 from Bowerhouse Junction will be closed. A signed diversion will be in place via the local road to Spott Roundabout.

Access to and from Myreside Junction will be controlled at the road closure points.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and all traffic management will be removed outwith working hours.

Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing improvements at Myreside Junction will create smoother and safer journeys for motorists using the A1 northbound.

“We’ve scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption, however if you do need to use this route on the nights of 5 or 8 December, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for the diversion.”
