A1 OVERNIGHT RESURFACING WORKS AT GLADSMUIR

September 13, 2023

ADDITIONAL NIGHTS OF ROAD WORKS:
Following delays due to recent adverse weather, three additional nights of resurfacing works are required on the A1 at Gladsmuir. These will take place on the nights of 9, 10 and 11 October, with all other details remaining the same.

  • Overnight road closures 28 September – 4 October

Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, is planning five nights of carriageway improvements on the A1, beginning on Thursday 28 September.

The resurfacing works are planned on the A1 at Gladsmuir Junction Northbound, between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00 each night from Thursday 28 September to Wednesday 4 October, with no works due to take place on Saturday or Sunday night.

The A1 will be closed northbound with a diversion route signposted between Oaktree Junction and Gladsmuir northbound onslip via the A199. This diversion is expected to add approximately 0.2 miles and 2 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
