The A1 northbound carriageway near East Linton is set to benefit from 2.4 kilometres of resurfacing improvements, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning ten nights of works from 10 to 23 July.
Works will take place between 21:00 and 06:00 on the nights of 10 and 11 July, and then between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of 14-18 and 21-23 July.
The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed at Thistly Cross Roundabout on these nights, with a signed diversion route to Abbotsview Junction in place via the A199. This diversion will add an estimated 4 minutes and 0.1 miles onto affected journeys.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing works will address defects in the road surface such as cracks and potholes, improving safety ad ride quality for motorists using this stretch of the A1.
“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, and we’ll be starting later on the nights of 10 and 11 July to avoid delaying traffic from the Scottish Open golf tournament.
“If you do need to travel on this route during the works, our advice is to allow a few extra minutes for your journey.”
