A1 NORTHBOUND RESURFACING NEAR EAST LINTON

April 18, 2024

  • Overnight carriageway closures 7 to 24 May 2024

The A1 is set to benefit from a total of 5.3 kilometres of carriageway improvements over two sites, with Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland planning 16 nights of resurfacing works near East Linton between 7 and 24 May.

The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be renewed on sections north of Tyne Bridge and then west of Monksmuir.

Work will take place between 19:30 and 06:00 each night from 7 to 24 May, except for the nights of Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May.

The northbound A1 will be closed at Thistly Cross Roundabout while work is taking place, with a diversion route signposted via the A199 to Abbotsview Junction, adding approximately 4 minutes and 0.1 miles onto affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank road users and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland at www.traffic.gov.scot, or on X at @trafficscotland.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
