£600,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR TWO SECTIONS OF M90 BETWEEN ARLARY AND GLENFARG

August 6, 2021

Works start Monday 9 August for ten nights

Two sections of the M90 hard shoulder are set to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £600,000 with work set to get underway next week.

The improvements will address defects in the surface on the northbound and southbound sections of the M90 hard shoulder between Arlary & Glenfarg.

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday 9 August and will take place over ten nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night, with all work expected to be completed by 6.30am on Friday 20 August.

To help minimise disruption to road users the project will take place in phases as follows:

  • Phase One – Monday 9 to Friday 13 August (five nights)

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a single lane closure will be in place continuously on the northbound carriageway due to the nature of the work.

  • Phase Two – Sunday 15 to Thursday 19 August (five nights)

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a single lane closure will be in place continuously on the southbound carriageway due to the nature of the work.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative, said: “This £600,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen these sections of the hard shoulder on the M90.

“The traffic management programmed is essential for ensuring everyone remains safe throughout the project, however our teams will do everything possible to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the M90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
