£450,000 OVERNIGHT SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED ON A87 BETWEEN GLENGARRY VIEWPOINT AND ARDOCHY FOREST

September 15, 2021

Project to begin on Sunday 19 September across three weeks

  • Overnight road closures in place for safety, 8pm to 6am

Essential surfacing improvements on the A87 between Glengarry Viewpoint and Ardochy Forest are set to get underway from Sunday.

The £450,000 project will see a total of 1.7km of road resurfaced on the A87, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The overnight improvements are scheduled to start on Sunday 19 September and will take place across three weeks. Works will be carried out between 8pm and 6am each night with surfacing due to be completed by 6am on Tuesday 5 October, subject to weather conditions. No works are planned for Friday or Saturday nights.

Due to the narrow carriageway width at this location of the A87, work will be carried out using a full road closure to ensure the safety of operatives and road users. A signed diversion route via the A87/A82/A887 will be in place during working hours which will add approximately 26 miles on to motorist journeys.

The road will be open outwith working hours to keep disruption to a minimum, however a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A87 between Glengarry Viewpoint and Ardochy Forest will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at these locations. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
