£420,000 WEEKEND SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A9 SOUTHBOUND APPROACH TO BROXDEN ROUNDABOUT

October 1, 2021

Works start Friday 8 October

  • Weekend road closure in place for safety

A section of the A9 southbound in Perth is set to benefit from surfacing improvements worth £420,000 with works set to get underway next week.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A9 approaching Broxden Roundabout, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists. The project was originally programmed to take place earlier this year, but the works were postponed.

The project is scheduled to begin at 7.30pm on Friday 8 October and will take place over one weekend with operations programmed where possible to take place consecutively. The improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Monday 11 October, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the A9 southbound carriageway between the McDiarmid Park Junction off-slip and Broxden Roundabout will be closed during the weekend. Motorists travelling south will be diverted through Perth along the A85 Crieff Road/Dunkeld Road, Caledonian Road, and A93 Glasgow Road. The northbound carriageway will remain fully open during the project.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “We’re pleased to see this project get underway after being postponed earlier this year. The £420,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A9 southbound in Perth.

“The planned closure of the southbound carriageway is essential for ensuring the safety of our workforce and motorists however our teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible. Where possible, the works have been programmed consecutively to reduce the duration of the scheme to help minimise any disruption to road users.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A9. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or via the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
