Works start Wednesday 21 September over three nights

On behalf of Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland will be carrying out overnight resurfacing works at the A82 West End Roundabout in Fort William, with works set to get underway on Wednesday 21 September.

This section of the A82 is used by around 18,000 vehicles every day. The £40,000 investment will create a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The project is scheduled to take place over three nights, with works planned between 8pm and 6am each night. No works will take place on Friday or Saturday night and all works are expected to be complete by 6am Monday 26 September, subject to weather conditions.

To ensure the safety of our roadworkers and motorists, the A82 between West End Roundabout and Belford Roundabout will be closed. Traffic will be diverted via High Street and Middle Street in Fort William. Access to and from Lundavra Road will also be restricted with traffic diverted via High Street, Gordon Square, Fassifern Road, Hill Road, Argyll Road and Argyll Terrace before joining Lundavra Road.

Traffic management will be removed outwith working hours; however, some signs may remain in place alerting motorists of ramps and temporary surfaces.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A82 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“The overnight closures are essential for the safety of road workers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at this location. Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these works. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot, twitter at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
