£285,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR M90 NORTHBOUND HARD SHOULDER BETWEEN HALBEATH AND KELTY

May 26, 2022

Works start Tuesday 31 May for eight nights

Surfacing improvements are set to get underway from Tuesday 31 May at 7.30pm on the northbound M90 hard shoulder near Kelty.

The £285,000 investment from Transport Scotland will address defects in the surface on the hard shoulder between Halbeath and Kelty.

The project is set to begin on Tuesday 31 May and is planned to take place over eight nights between 7.30pm and 6.30am. All works are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday 11 June. No works are programmed to take place on Thursday 2, Friday 3, Saturday 4 June.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, the hard shoulder and nearside lane will be closed during working hours. In addition, a 50mph speed restriction will also be in place for safety. Due to the nature of these works, the hard shoulder will remain closed off outwith working hours.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £285,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the M90, providing a better refuge for those unfortunate motorists that breakdown.

“The traffic management proposed is essential to ensure the safety of our teams and motorists and has been planned to help ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and we thank road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
