£135,000 FILTER DRAIN REFURBISHMENT PLANNED FOR A96 LHANBRYDE BYPASS

July 1, 2022

Works start Monday 4 July for seven nights

Filter drain recycling works on the A96 Lhanbryde Bypass are set to get underway from Monday 4 July.

The project will involve teams recycling the filter stone on the existing filter drains along either side of the A96 Lhanbryde Bypass carriageway between the roundabouts at either end of the village.

The improvements are scheduled to begin on Monday 4 July are expected to take approximately seven nights to complete, with works programmed to be carried out at night between 7.30pm and 6.30am each night.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a partial road closure will be put in place during working hours. Southbound traffic will be diverted through Lhanbryde around the works. The A96 will remain open for traffic travelling northbound throughout the duration of the project. All traffic management will be removed during the daytime.

Access to local businesses and all other properties will be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This drainage improvement project will greatly improve the safety for road users at this section of the A96 in Lhanbryde. The environmentally friendly recycling of the filter stone will help ensure any surface water on the A96 is drained away from the carriageway effectively.

“The works are being undertaken by Carnell using their StoneMaster Unit which cleans the stone on site and places it back into the roadside trench. This method helps reduce lorry mileage and materials required.

“The traffic management planned is essential for ensuring the safety of our workforce as well as footway and road users, however we have planned for the works to take place overnight and for traffic management to be removed outwith working hours to help minimise disruption.

“We thank the residents of the area and motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these works on the A96. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
