Overnight Essential Surfacing Improvements on the A9 North of Dalwhinnie

October 31, 2022

  • Project begins on Wednesday 2nd November for six nights
  • Overnight convoy with lane closures 7pm to 7am

Essential surfacing improvements on the A9 north of Dalwhinnie are set to get underway on Wednesday 2nd November 2022.

The project will see 785m of road resurfaced, creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.

The improvements are scheduled to start on Wednesday 2nd November and will take six nights to complete. Works will take place between 7pm and 7am each night, with surfacing due to be completed by 7am on Wednesday 9th November. No works are planned for Friday and Saturday nights.

To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, there will be a 10mph convoy system with lane closures and temporary traffic lights during working hours.

The road will be open during the day from 7am until 7pm, to keep disruption to a minimum. A speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This surfacing project on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.

The overnight works are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and avoiding working on Friday and Saturday nights.

Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works.
