A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s Maintenance team, looking after some of Scotland’s most iconic structures including the Queensferry Crossing.

Based in our Queensferry depot and reporting into the Maintenance Manager, the Trainee Technician will be trained to assist in the design of bridge maintenance schemes, bridge replacement schemes, bridge inspections and cyclic maintenance, assist maintenance supervisors.

Role includes:

  • Prepare detailed drawings for construction of bridge maintenance schemes
  • Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.
  • Carry out robust risk assessments and method statements before the commencement of works, operations or inspections.
  • Assist with the routine, cyclic and reactive works to bridges and structures.
  • Assist with the monitoring of sub-standard structures.
  • Assist with supervision.
  • Assist with preparation and review of H&S Documentation.
  • Maintain adequate design records.
  • Prepare bills of quantities.
  • Assist with measures and valuations.
  • Assist with technical studies.
  • Produce and archive drawings, documents, and scheme files.
  • Comply with technical standards of design and construction.
  • Assist in drafting of Departures from Standard when applicable.
  • Assist other senior staff as required.
  • Work at Height (Training will be provided).
  • Confined Space (Training will be provided).
  • Rescue Team (Training will be provided).
  • Assist Maintenance Team as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Attend college, to attain HNC in Civil Engineering.
  • Must be able to work to strict deadlines.
  • Commercially aware.
  • A full approved UK driving licence.
