The Management of Scotland’s Trunk Roads continues to grow as budgets increase to allow an ambitious upgrade of Scotland critical road infrastructure.  At BEAR Scotland, we manage and maintain 2,500km of carriageway and around 3,000 structures bridges through some of the most scenic parts of our country.

We commenced our new 8-12 year Network Management Contract in the South East unit in August 2020 and we are now expanding our team to help deliver the programmes to enhance the network.

Whether you have extensive experience and are ready-made for the role, or you have some experience and you are looking for the opportunity to develop we want to hear from you.

The role is to support the Planned Maintenance team with technical reports to support proposals for future schemes, including assisting with co-ordination of investigation works.  The successful person will also manage annual network review of Skid Resistance.


Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Co-ordinate annual programme for pavement investigations, including rotary coring, DCP, FWD and GPR surveying techniques.
  • Produce technical reports detailing the findings of investigations.
  • Attend technical workshops with Transport Scotland to discuss projects.
  • Conduct technical report reviews for junior staff.
  • Mentoring and developing Graduates & Technicians
  • Preparing and delivering operations in compliance with the CDM Regulations
  • Preparation and management of scheme and site files.
  • Management and supervision of supply chain contractors.
  • Management of health and safety requirements for specified schemes.
  • Assisting in the development of the wider programmes & treatment options
  • Supervision of site operations
  • Inspection & measurement of completed works
  • Comply with all BEAR Scotland policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of Contract Control and Management System.
  • Knowledge of current design standards.
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic management requirements.
  • Ability to comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to produce innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Capable of self management and self motivation.
  • A full approved UK driving licence.
