An exciting opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland as a Media and Communications Assistant.

BEAR Scotland manages, maintains and improves 1,962km of trunk roads in North West and South East Scotland including over 2,000 bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country. That means delivering millions of pounds worth of investment on road maintenance and improvement every year.

The Media and Communications Assistant, reporting to the Media and Communications Officers, will assist with the delivery of the Media & Communications strategy across the business.  Working as part of the team which operates a 24/7 Press Office and digital strategy on behalf of our client, one of Scotland’s largest public sector organisations.

The role would suit a recent communications, media, digital communications or marketing graduate with first-rate writing skills as well as a keen interest in all forms of media, from traditional journalism and broadcast to social media platforms.  They should have an ability to develop a news angle, an eye for design and the ability to translate ideas into strong digital content and good visuals.

Location: Perth, Queensferry or Inverness.

Role includes:

  • Working as a team to deliver a 24/7 Press Office (in partnership with BEAR’s external agency team), including providing responses to media enquiries, copywriting of press releases and newsletters and issuing statements.
  • Preparing, designing and creating content such as infographics and videos for social media channels, in-line with digital strategy.
  • Developing and writing content for the BEAR website and other marketing literature.
  • Assisting with designing and creating quarterly stakeholder newsletters.
  • Supporting on the implementation of communications campaigns utilising print, broadcast and online channels, in-line with client/business objectives and key messages.
  • Development of internal communications content including an employee newsletter.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Communications, media, digital marketing or marketing degree or equivalent.
  • The role would suit someone with relevant experience (experience) who is looking for a new challenge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen interest in all forms of media, from traditional journalism and broadcast to social media platforms.
  • Strong ICT skills – confidence in the use of social media and digital communications and an awareness of data security and the need for careful management of information.
  • Experience of writing compelling content such as news articles, social media posts or marketing collateral.
  • Ability to develop a news angle and first-rate writing skillsAn appreciation of plain English with creative flair.
  • An eye for design and the ability to translate ideas into strong digital content and good visuals (video and infographics)
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite – specifically InDesign and PremierPro video editing
  • Mobile with the ability to travel throughout Scotland (as covered by BEAR).
