Graduate Engineer – Roads and Bridges – South East

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. It includes routes such as the Edinburgh City Bypass, as well as a large section of the M8 connecting Edinburgh to Glasgow. It also includes over 750 bridges and structures including the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge. We have opportunities for Graduate Engineers in our project management and design teams across our South East Unit. The roles are based in our Queensferry, Bonnyrigg and Burghmuir offices.  Candidates should hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.   Previous work experience is not required but would be beneficial.  BEAR offers competitive salaries and a graduate training scheme accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Our Graduate Engineers will assist our experienced teams delivering multi-million pound programmes during the feasibility, design, procurement and construction of roads and bridge refurbishment and strengthening. This is an excellent opportunity for any Graduate Engineer to develop their design and Project Management experience.

Responsibilities and Activities include (but are not restricted to):

  • Delivering allocated projects on time and within budget.
  • Assisting with inspections, surveys and investigations on bridges and the network.
  • Assisting with the design of projects including preparation of drawings and other documentation.
  • Assist with the management of health and safety.
  • Assist with the management and supervision of sub-contractors on sites.
  • Follow the requirements of the Graduate Training programme as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in Civil Engineering (NB MEng is preferred for the opportunities within the Bridges team).
  • A full approved UK driving license.
