A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s team looking after the 1,422km of trunk roads and associated 1501 bridges and structures under the Scottish Trunk Roads Network Management Contract for the North West of Scotland. The North West Unit stretches from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt through some of Scotland’s most scenic countryside.

 

We are looking for a Design Technician to be trained as a road traffic sign designer to join our design team dealing with Priority Defect Repairs to keep the trunk road network safe for all users. The role will also involve assisting with the design of other priority defect repairs.

 

The main responsibilities and activities of the role include:

 

  • Design, preparation of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and Operations Instructions for replacement of road traffic signs and the associated infrastructure for repairing priority defects.
  • Design, preparation of drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and Operations Instructions for repairing priority defects other than road traffic signs.
  • Comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.

 

The successful candidate, if not already qualified to HNC or HND level, will be given the opportunity to study for these qualifications. Excellent IT and communications skills are essential along with a full driving licence.
