A1 ROAD MARKING WORKS AT OLD CRAIGHALL

January 5, 2021

  • Overnight road closure on 11 January

An overnight closure of the A1 is scheduled for the night of Monday 11 January at Old Craighall in East Lothian.

This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to refresh road markings and reinstate road studs to ensure road safety on the southbound carriageway at Old Craighall.

To allow these works to be completed safely and efficiently, the A1 at Old Craighall will be closed southbound from 19:30 until 06:30 on the night of Monday 11 January.

A southbound diversion route will be signposted between Old Craighall and the Wallyford junction via the A720, A68, and A6094 (Salters Road / Whitecraig Road), adding an estimated 5 minutes and 2 miles to journeys.

The A1 southbound will remain open outwith these times, with the northbound lanes open at all times. Emergency services will be given access if necessary.

Strict physical distancing protocols are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site, in line with Scottish Government guidance. Emergency services and other relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works are essential to ensure the safety of road users on this section of the A1. We’ve scheduled the project overnight to minimise disruption, however if you do need to travel at this time please allow a few extra minutes for your journey.”
