£685,000 SURFACING IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR A85 AND A828

Projects set to begin from Monday 16 November for four weeks

Three sections of the A85 and one section on the A828 are set to benefit from an improved road surface as surfacing works are set to get underway from Monday night.

The £685,000 project will involve improvements on the A85 west of Saulmore, east of Connel and Pass of Brander as well as a section of the A828 south of Ledaig. The project will see over 2.4km of the A85 and A828 resurfaced, creating a safer and smoother journey for motorists.

The improvements are scheduled to begin on Monday 16 November and are expected to take place over four weeks with all work scheduled to be completed by Tuesday 15 December, subject to weather conditions.

The project is programmed as follows:

  • A85 west of Saulmore – Monday 16 November to Tuesday 1 December (12 nights, excluding Friday and Saturday nights)

A 10mph convoy system will be in place between 8pm and 6am each night.

  • A85 east of Connel – Thursday 3 December to Friday 4 December (two days)

A 10mph convoy system will be in place between 7am and 6pm each day.

  • A828 south of Ledaig – Monday 7 December to Tuesday 8 December (two days)

A 10mph convoy system will be in place between 7am and 6pm each day.

  • A85 Pass of Brander – Wednesday 9 December to Tuesday 15 December (five days, excluding Saturday and Sunday)

A 10mph convoy system will be in place between 7am and 6pm each day.

At each site, traffic management will be reduced out with working hours, however a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in place, as traffic will be travelling over a temporary surface.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance, will be in force to protect teams and ensure they remain safe at all times.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “This £685,000 investment will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety of these sections of the A85 and A828 for road users.

“The traffic management programmed is essential to the safety of our teams and motorists; however, we have taken steps in an effort to minimise disruption to the residents of Dunbeg as much as possible, by carrying out the works on the A85 west of Saulmore overnight and avoiding works during typically busy periods of road operation.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
